Myrtle Beach

Postby DW-77 on Wed Jun 30, 2010 11:29 am

I am planning a vacation in late August in Myrtle Beach. I will be taking the beautiful wifey and my three boys (9, 8, 1).

Please share ideas on where to stay. I plan on staying at least five days but may stay for seven.

Thanks in advance if anyone wants to pay for the vacation.

XOXOXO

Last time I went, North Myrtle was nicer. Most of the riffraff stays in South Myrtle :)

We're headed down to Myrtle in a couple of weeks. We're staying at the Paradise Resort which is almost at the very southern end of the strip (ie. Ocean Blvd.)....I guess that would make us "riffraff". It's the second time we've stayed there, and it's a little older hotel, but it's still pretty nice and it's very family friendly. It's oceanfront, has a pretty good size pool, a kiddy pool, lazy river, yada yada yada. The last time we went with some friends and we shared a 2-bedroom condo, but this time we're just getting a regular oceanfront double room for us and the kids. You can also walk to the restaurant in the hotel next door and get a pretty snazzy breakfast buffet.

I've also stayed at the Compass Cove which, again, is older, but also nice. The amenities are nicer at Compass Cove than at Paradise, but it's a huge hotel, so getting to the beach or the pool can be a pain in the ass if you're hauling kids, chairs, beach toys, etc. I've got some friends that recently stayed at the Ocean Reef and they all really liked it. They've got a really sweet kiddy pool that your kids would probably love.

Dude that is my backyard. Stay in North Myrtle. Myrtle Beach proper is not a good family local.

We always stayed at Ocean Creek Plantation right across from Barefoot landing. I had rich friends that owned a house, but that is neither here or there, they have towers that are affordable beach side, and a close walk to barefoot landing, and a short drive to Broadway at the beach.. Look er up.

We head there August 15 through the 21. My first visit also. Great post idea. I will try to send one when we get back with ideas.

My kids are 10, 9 and 2 so very close.

I go there every Spring or Summer. We go with my wife's family and take our RVs, stay at Apache Campground on the northside. Going to try Myrtle Beach Travel Park next time, Apache is going down hill fast. It's 3 or 4 miles south of Barefoot Landing, the hotels around there seem nice enough. The pier at Apache is pretty good.

As far as stuff to do - Ripley's Aquarium is pretty neat. There is a state park on the water south of Myrtle with some nature type museums/activities, we even saw two wild gators in April! The women folk usually take the older kids to the amusement park (not sure where that is...) one night while the men stay back and watch the babies (and drink beer) - I think we get the better part of that deal. The Dixie Stampede restaurant is surprisingly good albeit pretty expensive. You eat dinner while watching a horse show, it's better than it sounds, trust me.

Ripley's Aquarium is a must for the kiddies. The amusement park you're referring to is probably Family Kingdom which is right on the strip.

Another fun place to eat is Dick's Last Resort in Barefoot Landing.

Check out Liberty Steak house, it is a brew pub. The IPA is very good.
